Your rod and reel needs to be strong enough to handle the weight and struggle of a big bass. Otherwise, you will be watching them swim away from you instead of pulling them into your boat. Every piece of gear you use to fish with is important right down to the hooks that you buy. They need to be in good condition and most of all, sharp. Dull hooks will cause you lots of problems and could make you lose your catch. The line used also needs to be strong enough to handle the weight of the bass without snapping.
